Management
Direction
The Director, elected by the Department Council, is responsible for directing, initiating, and coordinating the scientific and educational activities of the Department. The Director is in charge of implementing the decisions made by the governing bodies; supervises and coordinates the technical and administrative staff based on the organizational Regulations; oversees research activities, including their evaluation, and the distribution of teaching responsibilities among Professors and Researchers in the Department, according to the guidelines set by the University for educational planning, also monitoring compliance with these teaching duties.

Department Council
The Department Council of Physics and Earth Sciences is composed of:
- tenured professors;
- researchers;
- a student representative, appointed by the representatives in the Study Programs Councils of the Department (Michele Roncarati)
- a representative appointed among those enrolled in Doctoral programs based administratively at the University of Ferrara and established at the Department (Manuele Maistrello);
- a representative of research fellows working at the Department, appointed by them (for the period 2025-2028: Arianna Rossi)
- a representative group of the technical-administrative staff, serving for four years (Technicians for the period 2022-2026: Francesco Droghetti and Ilaria Neri, Administrative staff for the period 2022-2026: Claudio Pennini and Chiara Zagato)
Department Board
The Department Board assists the Director and may exercise decision-making powers delegated by the Department Council.
It is composed of the Director, who serves as chair, and a representation of the teaching staff. The Administrative Secretary also participates, with consultative voting rights.

Administrative Secretary
The Administrative Secretary is responsible for the department's administrative office and coordinates administrative, accounting, and teaching-related activities, is a member of the Department Council, serving as the recording secretary, and also participate in the Department Board with the same role and with a consultative vote. The Administrative Secretary collaborates with the Director on all matters concerning the optimal functioning of the department, institutional commitments, and relations with the department.
The Administrative Secretary of the Department of Physics and Earth Sciences is Patrizia Fordiani.
